  • Text: William Henry Forsyth ?

Father of William Henry, Grandfather of William Marion, Great-Grandfather of William Henry Forsythe.

No dates on this old gentleman.

He was a rich former, had extensive holdings. His farm was near Carthage, Illinois. There are stories about this man, as follows:

Every afternoon about time for the train to arrive in Golden, Illinois, he would drive his team of spirited black horses at a full gallop, hitched to a Trap, (a one seated buggy with four wheels), into town. By the time he arrived in Golden the horses were wet with sweat and covered with foam. He would throw the reins to some urchin standing near the station, and pompously instruct him, "Hold those horses, boy," and he would strut up and down the station platform while the passengers (if any) would board the train, observing whatever activity was taking place. Then he would get back in his cart and drive back to his farm the same speed that he came, as fast as the horses could run.

When he was on his death bed, and his doctor informed him of his condition, he remonstrated with the doctor, and told him that he didn't have time to die as he had to finish harvesting the crops.

In Julia Ann Taylor Compton Interview and Fulton County Heritage, she gave her marriage in January of 1839 in Auburn, Cayuga County, New York. - she would have been on;y 14 years old, which seems unlikely.
