• Text: The People of the State of newyork by the grace of god free and independent To all To whom these presents shall come or may concerne land greeting --
  
  Know ye that at the Town of Chenango in the county of Tioga on the twenty fifth day of october in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and five before me William Jenkins Esquire Surrogate of our Said county of Tioga the Last will and Testament of David Compton of Chenango in the county of Tioga afforesaid a coppy of which is hereunto ammended was proved and allowed of by us and the said Deceased having whilst Living and at the time of his death goods chattels and credits within This State by means where of The prooving and the requesting the Last will and the granting administration of all and singular the goods chattels and credits and also the auditing allowing and final discharging the amount thereof doth appertain unto us --
  
  The administration of all and singular The goods chattels and credits of David Compton deceased and any wise concerning his will is granted unto Pheobe Compton Executris in Last will named She being part duly sworn will and faithfully to administer the same and also to rendera just and true amount of her administration when thereunto Legally required --
  
  In testimony whereof we have caused the Seal of office of our said Surrogate of the County of Tioga at Chenango the twenty fifth day of october 1805 and of the Independance of the United States the Thirtyeth

  In the Name of God Amen I David Compton of the Town of Chenango in the county of Tiog being low in body but of sound disposing mind memory and understanding knowing the certainty of death and considering the uncertainty of bodyly Life Do hereby make publish and declare this my Last will and Testament in manner and form following To wit I will and devise that all my just debts and funeral charges be first paid as soon as is convienient after my deceas and considering that what I have all ready given to my son James and my daughter Elizabeth as great a proportion of my estate as would be [comcing] to Them upon are equal devisions Thereof I do Therefore give divise and bequeath unto my wife Phebe and to my sons ashmond and John and my daughter Sally after paying my debts as afforesaid all my Estate of what kind and nature soever To be jointly and Equally devided between them and my Three children Last mentioned [nex?mited] hereby commit them to the care of my beloved wife to bee brought up in such manner as she shall think most prudent and ability will allow and for the Two executions of this my Last will and Testament hereby authorized constitute and appoint my beloved wife Phebe executrix of this my testament and Last will hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore made and giving her hereby full power and authority to do all such acts and things as may be necessary and for the most advantage that can be done In Witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twelfth day of june in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and five --

  Be it remembered that on the twenty fifth day of october in in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and five personally appeared before me William Jenkins surrogate of the County of Tioga Daniel Sneden one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Instrument in writing purpoting to be the Last will and Testament of David Compton Late of the Town of Chenango and county of Tioga deceased who being by me duly sworn deposeth and saith That he was present and did see the Said David Compton sign seal publish and declare the said Instrument in writing or & for his Last will and testament and that he Together with James Cohant subscribed their names as witnesses there to in the presents of the Testator and of Each other --
