  • Text: About Yourself.- Your mother's mother was Julia Taylor,- born in Cato N. York July 7 1824. Caguaga County. Her mother was Rachel Jelliffe- born Jan 4 1793 at Westport Connecticut. who was married to Bennett Taylor in 1813. They were parents to ten children; Maria- Esther; Robert William; Alonzo; twins died 1822; Julius and Julia- (your grandmother) Mary Elizabeth and James Osborn (Aug 1 1829). She died in Troupsville N. Y Mar 11, 1830- in child birth I believe. Grandma was about 7 years of age.

He then Bennett Taylor remaried- his wife being Nancy Bilay- who was the mother also of 10 children- my father's step father Charles Henry- being the oldest of the Children.

Rachel Jelliffe's father was William Jelliff, and he and Huldah Sturges were married Dec 7 1771 at Norwalk Ct. William Jelliff's father was Thomas Jelliff who married Catherine Fillow in 1738 Norwalk Ct. Thomas Jellif's father was William who died at sea. One might learn something of these earlier folks- there is a Fillow genealogy in Newberry Lib. I believe. Fillows and Jelliffs- and Sturges.

Hulda Sturges's Father John Sturges I believe, whose father was Eleazer Sturges who married Charity- a Pequoit Indian. I have the line, and it is easily found in genealogies- (which I cannot get to).

This Alonzo Taylor- brother of Grandma Compton married Samantha Grover the mother of Timothy Goodsell, and who lived with your mother about the time Wayne was born. He died while they lived in N.Y state, and had three children and Grandpa Comption drove back to N.Y state and brought the family to Ill. She then married Daniel Goodsell- father of Timothy. who married Aunt Julia Compton.

The founder of the NY store Lord and Taylor was on of this family- for George Taylor of Grand Rapids, (son of Grandma's brother William- who lived at Victory Corners N.Y.) wrote and told me he was named after (his Uncle George) Taylor. I've not been able to get any of this information, but it can be found.
