The following are notes from an interview with Julia Ann Taylor Compton:

Julia said she was born in Auburn, New York 7 July 1824 and she and Jonathan Jesse Compton were married there in January 1837 [1839].
As a small child she walked a mile or so to school. Later her family moved to town and she did not have to walk so far.
Julia's parents Bennett Taylor and Rachel Jelliff Taylor were natives of Connecticut.
Rachel died in the state of New York and is buried there. Bennett died in Christian County, Illinois.
Julia and Jonathan arrived in Canton, Fulton County, Illinois in 1840 and lived there until they moved to Avon, Fulton County, Illinois in 1852.
Jonathan was a hatter at first, then became a carpenter. Julia learned to be a tailoress before leaving New York. In Illinois She made garments for Dewey Drygoods Store.
At the time of the interview she was living in the house that Jonathan built over half a century before. They belonged to the German Baptist Church in Avon.
They had 12 children. The following five were still living in 1906 - Mrs. Catherine Hodson of Avon - Mrs. Sorrilda Cunningham of Galesburg, Ill. - Mrs. Julia I. Goodsell of Mayfield, Mich. - Mrs. Minnie Hamill of Grand Rapids, Mich.
Julia had one full living brother in 1906. William who resided in Iowa.
