Bennet Taylor was most probably the son of Robert William Taylor and Rhoda Bennett. He was born between April 2, 1794 in Vermont, possibly Wolcott. Wolcott is in what is now Lamoille County. Lamoille County was created in 1835 from Chittenden, Orleans, and Franklin Counties. In the 1850 Federal Illinois Census for District 22 in Christian County, Illinois, Bennet listed his place of birth as Vermont. In the 1880 Federal Illinois census for Avon, Fulton County, his daughter Julia Ann stated that he was born in Connecticut. He died in Stonington, Christian County, Illinois on March 11, 1853 and is buried there at the Stonington Cemetery.
He first married in Westport, Fairfield, County, Connecticut, in 1813, Rachel Jelliffe, the daughter of William Jelliff and Huldah Sturges. Bennet's first name has been spelled variously Bennet and Bennett.
Rachel was born on 4 January, 1793, in Norwalk or Westport Connecticut. She died on 11 March, 1830, in Troupsville, Cayuga County, New York. Rachel's last name has been spelled variously Jelliff and Jelliffe.
They had 10 children, the first 6 of which were born in Westport, Fairfield County, Connecticut, and the last 4 were born in Cato, Cayuga County, New York:

After Rachel died, Bennet married Nancy Ann Bilay. Nancy was born in November 23, 1810 in New York, and died in September 10, 1865 in Stonington, Christian County, Illinois (aged 54 years, 10 months and 12 days). She is buried in alongside Bennet. They had 10 children, the first 5 of which were born in New York, the rest in Christian County, Illinois:

The birth and death dates for Bennet, Rachel, Nancy and their children are from the Bennet's Family Bible.
Bennet was a hatter - made plug and stovepipe silk hats for men. Sometime between 1822 and 7 July, 1824, Bennett moved his family to Ira, Cayuga County, New York, where Bennet became a farmer. Robert William Taylor's obituary stated he was 7, but this could not be since Julia and Julius were born in New York when Robert was only 5. The census records for the townships of Auburn, Cato and Ira in Cayuga County, New York do not list Bennet, Taylot. His brotehr Alonzo Tayloe is shown there in the town of Auburn, where Julia AnnTaylor daid she was born in 1824.
Bennet and Rachel sold some of their land in Norwalk, Fairfiled County, Connecticut on October 5, 1824 to Dan Taylor (They were already living in New York). The land was originally owned by his grandfather then left for his grandmother's use when his grandfather passed away. His inherited share was from his father, Robert W. Taylor. The document was signed in the presence of Charles W. Taylor and Seth Taylor. The JP who signed it was also Seth Taylor (LDS film #5012 - Vol. 24, Pg. 732 - Norwalk Deeds). They also sold land there to Gould Jelliff on 28 October, 1824. The document was signed in the presence of Hiram Taylor and Alonzo Taylor (LDS film #5012 - Vol. 24, Pg. 576, Norwalk Deeds). Charles W., Hiram, and Alonzo were Bennet Taylor's brothers. Dan Taylor was his uncle. It is unknown who Seth Tayor was. Gould Jelliff was most likely Rachel's brother, although she had a cousin by that name from her brother Aaron. I have been told by two distinct individuals that they had seen proof that Bennet Taylor was the son of Robert Wiley Taylor and Rhoda Bennet, however in each case they no longer had the documentation supporting these claims.
Sometime after September 1841 and before January 17, 1844, Bennet moved his family again to Christian County, Illinois.
