  • Text: COPY OF DISCHARGE OF JONATHAN COMPTON

    TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN -

    Know ye, that Jonathan J. Compton, Private of Captain Selah W. King, Co. (G) 50 Reg. of Illinois Infantry Volunteers who was enrolled on the Twenty-fourth day of September, One thousand eight hundred and sixty one to serve three years or during the war is hereby DISCHARGED from the service of the UNITED STATES, this twenty-seventh day of September 1864 at Rome, Georgia, by reason of expiration of term of service. (No objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist). Said Jonathan J. Compton was born in _________ in the State of ________ is forty three years of age, five feet 8-1/2 inches high, dark complection, hazel eyes, black hair, and by occupation when enrolled, a Farmer. Given at Rome, Ga. this 27th day of September 1864.
