  • Text: In the name of God Amen I William Jelliff of Norwalk in the County of Fairfield being weak in Body but of a sound disproving mind memory and understanding do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. viz.

    In the first place my will is that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid and discharged out of my Estate by my Executors hereafter named.

    Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Huldah Jelliff the use and improvement of one third part of my Real Estate During her natural life and one third of my personal Estate as her own for ever -

    Item I give devise and bequeath unto the children of my son Sturges Jelliff about four acres of land with the dwelling house thereon situated in the Town of Ridgefield being the place where said Sturges now lives which is to be their portion.

    Item All the residue and remainder of my Estate both Real and Personal I give devise and bequeath unto my son William Jelliff Jnrs Heirs and my sons Aaron Hezekiah Zalmon David Gould & Hiram Jelliff and my daughter Polly wife of Denton Gregory and Rachel wife of Bennett Taylor to be to them their heirs and assigns forever in equal parts or portions that is to say my said sons Aaron Hezekiah Zalmon David Gould & Hiram and daughters Polly & Rachel each one share and the heirs of my son Wm decd and share making nine shares and I have advanced to my son Zalmon sisty dollars exclusive of what I have charged on my book and to my son Gould one hundred and ninety two dollars to be taken from their portions and what I have charged on my book to my son William Jelliff Jnr. to be allowed as part of the portion herein devised to his Heirs and what I have charged on my book to my sons Aaron Hezekiah Zalmon and David and my daughters Polly and Rachel to be allowed as part of their portion in my Estate and I do constitute and appoint my son Aaron Jelliff of Witton Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do acknowledge this to be my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 13th of October AD. 1823

    Fairfield County Ss Norwalk October 13th 1823 Personally appeared Nelson Jarvis and Polly Morehouse two of the witnesses to the foregoing instrument and made solemn oath that they saw William Jelliff this Testator subscribe his name thereto heard him pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will & Testament that they together with Seth Taylor the other witness subscribed their names in the presence of each other and in the presence of the Testator and that they there believed him to be of a sound disposing mind memory & understanding Before me Seth Taylot Justice of Peace

    At a Court of Probate held at Norwalk November 4th 1823 --
    At this Court the aforegoing last Will & Testament of William Jelliff late of Norwalk Decd was presented for acceptance and approbation Aaron Jelliff the Executor therein named This Court having duly considered said Will and also its having been duly proved that the same is hereby approved and ordered to be recorded the said Aaron Jelliff having accepted the trust and given bond for the faithful performance of the same

    At a Court of Probate holden at Norwalk November 5th 1823
    This Court hereby limits and appoints six months from this date for the creiditors of the Estate of William Jelliff decd to exhibit their claims against said Estate and the Execr is hereby ordered to give public notice thereof as the law directs

    At the same Court. This Court hereby authorises empowers and appoints Messrs Seth Taylor of Norwalk & Thadds Waterbury of Witton appraisers to the Inventory and appraises the Real & Personal Estate of William Jelliff decd and to make due return to this Court.
