Petition for Letters of Administration

In the manner of the Estate of William M. McFarland deceased, for Letters of Administration

To the Hon. Carl E. Epler, Judge of the County Court of Adams County, in the State of Illinois.

The petition of the undersigned Martha L. Forsyth repectfully represents that William M McFarland late of the County of Adams aforesaid, departed this life in Houston Township in said County, on or about the 11th day of September A. D. 1896, leaving no last will and testament as far as your petitioner knows or believes

And this Petition further shows that the said William M McFarland died, seized and possessed of Real and Personal Estate, said personal estate consisting chiefly of two horses, grain, household goods and cash, all of said personal estate being estimated to be worth about seven hundred dollars. That said deceased left surviving him no widow, but left him our owing this petitioner ? Amy H. Suter, his children, and Everard H. Strickler son of Rebecca J. Strickler a daughter deceased his grand child his sole and only heirs of law. That your petitioner (being a daughter of said deceased), and believing that the said Estate should be immediately administered, as well for the proper management od said Estate as for the prompt collection of assets, by virtue of her right under the Statute therefor paray your Honor will grant Letters of Administration to herself in the premises, upon her taking the oath prescribed by the Statute, and entering into bond in such sum, and with secutities, as may be approved by your Honor.

To the Hon. Carl E Epler Judge of the County Court of Adams County:
The undersigned Martha L Forsyth your petitioner, by appointment of this Court, Administratrix of the Estate of William M McFarland, deceased, respectfully represent that She has heretofore duly returned to this Court the inventory and appraisement of the personal estate of said deceased; that She believes and that a sale of all the personal property, goods, and chattels of said estate is necessary for the proper administration of said estate.
Your petitioner therefore prays for an order to sell all of the personal property, goods and chattels contained in the inventory and appraisement bill of said estate, at public and private sale, at such time and place and on such terms as are required by law, and as it may please the Court to direct.

Strickler a daughter of said intestate and who predeceased him as his only descendants and sole heirs at law, who are therefore each entitled to 1/3 of said balance of $614.22 + 50 to Everard or our third being $221.40
