    I, William Witt, of sound mind and despairing memory do make this my last will and testament.

    Item 1, I give and bequeath to my wife Frances, my slave Thomas to have during her natural life in case she survives me and in such with my will and desire is that the said Thomas shall have his freedom at her death.

    Item 2, I give and bequeath to my said wife such of the goods and chattels she brought to me in marriage which shall remain with us at the time of my death and old __________ disposed of and these I wish her to have in addition to her lawful dower and not lieu of any part thereof.

    Item 3, I give and bequeath to my negro man Thomas aforesaid his freedom to commence at my death in case I survive my wife and at her death in case she shall survive me & it is my will and desire that he shall likewise have his wearing apparel and other little articles which by the indulgences of his Master and Mistress he may have acquired & shall hold at the time of his freedom shall commence. All the rest and residue of my Estate both real and personal I desire to be divided among my lawful heirs in the manner acct by the Laws of this Commonwealth my sole object in making this will having been to give my wife the property above and bequeath to her in addition to her dower and my negro man Thomas his freedom at the period above mentioned together with his belongings per as above, _______ and desiring that all the rest and residue of my property of every sort & kind should be distributed exactly as if I had died interstate.

    Lastly, I hereby constitute and appoint my son Saunders with now of Floyd County Virginia the sole executor of this my last will and testament.

    Given under my hand this 14th day of March in the year 1834
