Note
According to an online tree, the "Cemeteries of Adams Co. Vol. IV" lists his name as Daniel George Witt.

He is not found in Patrick County in the 1830 census, where his father is found. He is also not found in Adams County, Illinois, in 1830. He probably did not move to Adams County, Illinois until he bought land there in 1835.
Family Note
Daniel Witt was born on September 11, 1787, in Henry County, Virginia. He was probably the son of William Witt and Elizabeth Haley. The only persons with the surname Witt that show up in the 1800 Tax List for Henry county are John, Jesse, and David Witt. Daniel Witt died of a tumor in Chili, Adams, County, Illinois, on May 2, 1855. The 1860 Federal Census Index for Houston Township, Adams County, Illinois, finds his wife as head of household. Daniel is buried in Yorkneck Cemetery, near Bowen and Golden, Illinois. He married Martha W. Brewer on May 13, 1816 in Henry County, Virginia, where she was born. The 1850 Federal Census for Houston Township, Adams County, Illinois, lists her as age 53, being born about 1797. She died, also of a tumor, on March 19, 1876 in Chili, Adams, County, Illinois. She is supposedly buried in Yorkneck Cemetery, however a researcher did not find her tombstone. Martha was the daughter of William Brewer.

Daniel and Martha had 8 children, the oldest five were born in Virginia, and the youngest three in Chili, Adams County, Illinois:

William B(rewer?) (2 Jan 1817 - 18 JAN 1885) m. Mary Frances James
Lucinda Ann (1820 - bef 1880 ) m. Alpha Forsyth
Samuel B(rewer?) (21 Jan 1824 - 27 Jun 1894) m. Elizabeth V. Walters (6 Aug 1832 - 11 Feb 1912)
Nancy (21 Jun 1827 - 17 Jun 1854) m1. Abraham Whitemore Strickler, m2. Steven J. Groves
Catherine (1829 - ) m. Stewart Howard Strickler
Daniel "Dan" L. (1832 - ) m. Nancy McGinnis (7 Apr 1841 - 4 Feb 1871)
John "Jack" Jackson (27 Nov 1835 - 5 Jan 1897) m. Sarah Witt (21 May 1830 - aft 5 Jan 1897)
George W(ashington?) (5 Jan 1838 - 24 Sep 1889) m. Sarah Ann Thompson (8 May 1843 - 14 Mar 1899)

Daniel served in the war of 1812, and at the time lived near the St. Patrick Court House, in Patrick County, Virginia. He moved his family to Adams County, Illinois between 1829 and 1832. On May 20, 1835, Daniel Witt bought 218.4 acres of land in Adams County, Illinois. He is found in the 1840 Federal Census Index, Federal Population Schedule, for Adams County, Illinois, City of Quincy. Next he is listed in the 1850 Federal Census for Houston Township, Adams County, Illinois on November 25, 1850 as Daniel Witt, age 63, Farmer, 1000 acres, born in Virginia. Martha Witt is listed as age 53, born in Virginia. The children listed are: Daniel Witt, age 18, Farmer, born in Illinois, Jackson Witt, age 15, born in Illinois, George Witt, age 13, born in Illinois, William Witt, age 31, Farmer, 1000 acres, born in Virginia.
There is a Daniel Witt listed in the 1830 Federal Census for Russell County, Virginia, but this Daniel and his wife were between 20 and 30, and had 3 daughters less than five years old at the time. This is apparently a different person. There is also a Daniel Witt listed in the 1860 Federal Census for Chili Township, Hancock County, Illinois, but this is apparently his son, as is the entry in the 1872 Plat book for the same township.
