Note
Josiah Taylor was the son of Lt. John Taylor III and Wait Clapp. He was born on October 17, 1701 in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He died on February 11, 1781 in Westport, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He is buried there at the Old Westport Cemetery at King and River Streets. His will was dated February 17, 1777, but not proved until October 27, 1795.

The will of Josiah Taylor, dated 17 February 1777, names his wife, sons Josiah, Jonathan, Levi, Gamaliel, Ahijah, Paul and Eleazer, heirs of son Barach, daughters Sarah and Thankful, and grandson Israel Nash. In the will he mentions that he is afraid that his sons Paul and Eleazer will become traitors. Ahijah, Gamaliel, Jonathan and Levi are all living in Norwalk in the 1790 Census.
