  Know all men by these Presents that we -- Robt Roach & William McFarland of the County of Rockbridge -- are held and family bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia in the just and full sum of fifty Pounds currency to the payment whereof will and truly to be made we do bind ourselves our Heir's Executors and Administrators family and severally family by these Presents Sealed with our Seals and Dated this 22nd Day of August 1787 -- The Condition of this obligation is such that whereas there is a Marriage shortly intended to be Solemnized between the above bound Robert Roach and Rebecca McFarland Daughter of Robert McFarland of this County
  If therefore there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct said Marriage then the above obligation to be Void or to else remain in full force. ---
