  • Text: In the Name of God Amen I Preserved Clapp of Northampton in ye County of Hampshire in ye province of ye Massachussetts Bay in New England being old & finding ye Symptoms of Mortality in my body but of a Sound mind & memory Blessed be God for ye Same Do make Ordain and Constitute thus my Last Will & Testament in manner & form following

    Viz: principally & first of all I Give & bequeath my Soul into the hands of God who gave it and unto Jesus Christ who has redeemed it with his own most precious blood and my body commit unto ye Earth to be decently Interred at ye discretion of my Executor hereafter mentioned There to rest in the Grave till the Gen'll Resurrection Where I hope & believe for a blessed Resurrection & a Reunion of Soul & body for Ever to be with the Lord upon ye account of the Mediation of Christ Jesus my Redeemer And as Touching yt Worldly Estate yt it has pleased ye Lord to bless me with at I Give devise dispose & bequeath after my Just Debts of all sorts and funeral Expenses first paid in manner & form following viz:
    Imp'us: To my Eldest son Preserved Clap to him & his heirs [] I Give all my land in a Lot lying in a place near a place called Lymans great Lot being about 100 acres & a half and all my land in ye Triangle lot being three acres be it more or less and one third part of my land in ye Commons in ye Division between this & Munhane Mill and with respect to ye rest of my Common land either divided or undivided I give to my said son Preserved two parts in five

    It'm To my Son Sam'll Clapp I give him & his he'rs ye The One Moiety or half part of my Pasture in ye Mead'w which was Rich. Lymans and ye One half of my long lot in Pynchons Meadow lying next his own land and the One third part of my Division of Commons between this & Munhane Mill and ye One Moiety or hald part of all my Commons either Divided or Undivided after Preserved has had his two fifths

    It'm to my Son Roger CLap I give the One Moiety or half part of my afores'd Pasture yt was Richard Lymans Sam'll having ye other and the One hald of my long lot in Pynchons Mead'w Sam'll having ye other And alsoe to Roger I give ye One third part of my land in ye Division of Commons between this & Munhane Mill and ye One Moiety of half part of all ye rest of my Common land both Divided & Undivided after Preserved has had his two fifths

    It'm To my Son Thom's Clap I give Thirty Seven Pounds to be paid in One years after my Decease by my two Sons Sam'll & Roger Viz: Sam'll to pay twenty Pounds & Roger Seventeen Pounds w'ch if my S'd Sons Sam'll & Roger neglect or refuse to pay as afores'd then my Will is yt the On third part of the land that is before Willed to Sam'll & Roger be & belong and I do hereby give it to my son Thomas And with respect to my Wearing apparel my Will is yt it be Equally divided between my four Sons Viz Preserved, Sam'll Roger & Thomas Saving my Will is that my Eldest Son Preserved Shall have a two Share or a double portion of them with ye other three of my sons and whereas I have a right of land in Windsor yt did come by my Wife Sarah Deceas'd yt was her honored Father Capt. Newbury Deceas'd I Give & bequeath ye Same to my four Sons Viz Preserved Sam'll Roger & Thomas to be Equally Divided between them

    It'm And with respect to ye rest of my moveable Estate wither quick Stock or Deas[?] & Wenfills[?] of all sort either within doors or without I give & bequeath to my three daughters Viz, Sarah: Waite, and Hannah to be Equally divided between them

    It'm that whereas my Son Preserved Owes me Ten Pounds my Will is that he pay ye s'd sum of ten pounds together with fifty shillings more being in ye whole Twelve Pounds ten shillings to my two Daughters Sarah & Hannah to be Equally Divided between them in one year after my Decease and if my Said Sson Preserved shall faile of paying ye afores'd Sum then my Will is that ye Lot called ye Triangle Lot Afores'd be given & belong unto my two Sons afores'd Viz Sam'll & Roger they paying ye s'd Twelve Pounds ten shillings to my s'd two daughters Sarah & Hannah & if they faile of paying ye Same in one year after it is due as afores'd then my Will is that ye said Triangle Lot given unto Preserved & afterward given upon Condition unto my two Sons Sam'll and Roger be & belong unto my two daughters Sarah & Hannah

    It'm my Will further is that my son Sam'll Sam'll [sic] pay to my two Daughters Viz: Sarah & Hannah twenty five shillings in Equall halfs between them

    It'm my will further is that whereas my son Roger owes me five pounds and alsoe I have a[]ated hime something of his paying to my son Thomas that he shall pay unto my said two Daughters Sarah & Hannah Six pounds five shillings in Equal halfs between my s'd two Daught's which money if Sam'll & Roger my Will is yt be paid in one year after my Decease which if they neglect to pay pay [sic] my Will is yt my Said two daughters shall have as much of the land Willed to them as Will by an indifferent apprizment before Thomas has his third (if their be Occasion) fetch the aforesaid respective legacies Viz: Twenty five shillings out of Sam'lls part and Six pound five shillings out of Roger part My Will further is yt Whereas I have already given to my daughter Hannah a cow a chaffing dish & an old brass kettle that she shall have then beside the aforesaid legacy & before any of the afores'd Distribution

    And I do further Constitute & appoint my truly & well beloved son Preserved to be sole Executor of this my Last Will & Testament hereby annuling & Revoking all former Wills & Testaments (by me made done and suffered to be done declaring this & this only to be my Last Will & Testament) unto ye Confirmation of which I have Set to my hand & Seal this 19th Day of March in ye fifth year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George by ye Grace of God of Great Brittain France & Ireland King Defend'r of the Faith ye Anno ye Domini 1718/19
