  • Text: I Mathew Allyn of windsor in the colony of Connecticutt Being at pr'sent thorough the Tender mercy of God (though weak in body) of good memory, & have the use of my understanding as at other times, am desirous to attend the counsell of thge prophet. In setting my house in order that soe I may with the more freedome wayte the good pleasure of God, whose I am, & In whom I doe desire Forever to hope, wayte, & rejoyce & Into the Armes of his mercy I desire to render my soule (& by the merrits of Jesus christ alone I expect & hope for the free pardon & remission of all my sins, & a habitation In those hevenly mansions that he hath prepared for all his redeemed ones) & my Body to christian Buriall according to the discresion of my children, & for that Estate that God hath blest me w'th all I doe give & bequeath it as is hereafter exprest,

    I make my beloved wife my sole executrix of this my Last will & Testament,

    Imp'rs I doe give all the Estate that I now stand possesst off both Lands cattell & houshold stuffe to my deare & well beloved wife Margaret Allyn to be & belong to her dureing her naturall life my just debts being first payd, & I desire my sons John Allyn Thomas Allyn & Benjamin Nubery to Improve the same For her confort, & I command them to be carefull in provideing for her comfortable maintenance as Long as she shall live.

    2 And After the Decease of my deare & well beloved wife I give unto my beloved son John Allyn his heirs forever all my Lands & Estate Lyeing & being w'th in the Bounds of the Township of Kenilworth In the county of New London I say both the farme & stock upon it that is in the hands of my Tennants, I also hereby confirm & rattify to him & his heirs forever all my Land In Hartford that I gave to him as his marriag portion, & which formerly hath bin recorded to him

    3 after the decease of my wife I give unto my wel beloved sonn Thomas Allyn the one halfe of my farme or Land at catch & near to catch, onely out of his halfe I give unto my beloved Grand child Mathew Allyn one Hundred Acres of Land where of Twenty Acres shall be meadow & where as upon his marryage I confirmed my Lands In windsor to him & his heirs for ever I doe now hereby rattify & confirm the same to him agayne I Likewise give him my tables & stooles that belong to the House as allso the cubboards

    4 I doed Likewise after the decease of my beloved wife give unto my beloved son & Daughter Benjamin & Mary Newbery & their heirs forever the one halfe of my Farme or Land at catch & near to catch, [onely] out of his halfe I give unto my beloved grand child Mary Maudsly & her heirs forever Fifty Acres of Land whereof Tenn Acres shall be meadow:

    I give unto Mary Griffen If she continue her service w'th me & my wife till we decease Forty shillings before her wages

    I give unto John Indian one sute of my clothes my sons to appoynt which.

    my just debts & Legacies being payd the remainder of my estate I give & bequeath to my sonns John & Thomas Allyn & my daughter Mary Newbery to be equally divided Between them, each of them to have a Third part as before which Third part shall belong to them & their heirs forever, finally I comand my children that they be Loveing kind and helpfull one unto another & that they walke in the fear of god, that he may be with them & bless them. When I shall be gathered to my fathers.

    And that this is my Last will & Testament, hereby renownceing all former wills & Testaments that I have made by writing or word of mouth, & ratifying this I declare by subscribeing here to this Thirtyeth of January 1670
