More Cabinet Cards, Galesburg, Illinois

In the previous installment of this series, I highlighted the cabinet cards found in Margaret Forsyth's photo collection, taken by G. C. Bauman in Galesburg, Illinois. The photo collection was provided by Nick Hyslop. In this installment, I cover a few more taken at other photography studios in , but in this case, we can positively identify all of the persons photographed.

The first of the cabinet cards is not labeled or dated, but is a photograph of my great grandmother, Margaret "Maggie" Scully, as a young girl, along with her younger sister, Catherine "Kate" Scully. Both can be easily recognized from photographs published in the last installment. We can date the photograph to about 1887, putting Maggie about 14 and Kate about 7. The photo was taken by the Loomis studio and has front imprinting only.

The next two cabinet card were taken at the Ploughe studio in Galesburg, Illinois. The cards have front imprinting only. The first of these is labeled, "John 13 | Dan 11". These are younger brothers of Margaret Scully. John Joseph Scully was born in January of 1883 and Daniel Scully was born in July of 1884. Incidentally, Daniel's WWII draft application specifically states his middle name as "none". It does not appear that either Margaret or Daniel had middle names. The photo must have been taken in the first half of 1896.

The second of the Ploughe cabinet cards is also not labeled or dated, but Mary Elizabeth Scully is recognized from later photos. She appears here with her husband Charles Wilson. This is probably their wedding photo and they were married in 1897.

The last cabinet card presented here today was taken at the Bryan & Howard studio in Galesburg, Illinois. The card includes front imprinting only. Again, the card is not labeled or dated, but luckily for us, all of the Scully children look similar and from later photos we recognize this as Ellen "Nell" (Scully) Sipes and her three children, Edward, Mattie and George. Based on their ages, we can date this photo to about 1897 as well.
