DORSET. Inq. taken at Craneborn, Wednesday before the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 14 Richard II.

He had no lands &c. in the county on the day of his death because long before he enfeoffed Elizabeth Brente and John Dily[ngton] of all his lands and tenements in Wodeyate and Pentrich.

Writ to Edward Boklond, late escheator in Somerset and Dorset, ordering him to send into Chancery without delay an inquisition taken by him after the death of John Denbaud. 22 January, 14 Richard II.

Writ to the escheator—on a petition from John Frye alleging that Geoffrey le Frye, now deceased, granted to Thomas Denebaude the younger and the said John Denebaude his brother, both now deceased, for life and in survivorship, with reversion to himself (the said Geoffrey) and his heirs, the messuage and 30 a. land and meadow in Nythedone which are stated by the above inquisition taken at Crukern on 2 November last to have been held by the said John Denebaud for life with reversion to John Seymour of Astynton and his heirs, and that the said messuage and 30 a. ought to revert to him (the said John Frye) as son of Rose daughter of the said Geoffrey and kinsman and heir of Geoffrey—to make inquisition touching the premises and send it into Chancery without delay. 1 May, 14 Richard II.

SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Crukern, 12 June, 14 Richard II.

Geoffrey le Frye, now deceased, granted the said messuage and 30 a. as stated in the above petition, and they ought to revert to John Frye as son of Rose daughter of the said Geoffrey and kinsman and heir of Geoffrey.
Order to the sheriff of Somerset, in pursuance of the above writ and inquisition, to notify the said John Seymour of Astynton that he be before the king in Chancery in the quinzaine of Midsummer next to shew cause why the aforesaid messuage and 30 a. land and meadow in Nythedone should not be delivered to John Frye. 14 June, 14 Richard II.
Endorsed: (1) The said John Seymour has been notified accordingly by Richard Maior and John Gibelot.
    (2) He did not appear in the Chancery on the above day, although solemnly called.

    991.

Writ of plura, 3 May, 14 Richard II

DORSET. Inq. taken at Cranebourn, Wednesday before the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 14 Richard II.

He held no lands &c. in the county on the day of his death; but long before his death he enfeoffed Elizabeth Brente and John Dilyngton of all the lands &c. which he had in Wodeyat and Pentrich, to hold to them and their heirs.
Order to the sheriff of Somerset to notify John Maudeleyn, to whom (by the name of John Maudeleyn, yeoman of the king’s robes) the king by letters patent has committed the custody of a moiety of the manor of Henton St. George among other lands &c. late of John Denbaude, together with the marriage of the said John Denbaude’s heir, that he be before the king in Chancery in the three weeks from Michaelmas to shew cause why Margaret countess of Norfolk should not be restored to possession of the said custody and marriage; as the said countess has represented to the king that the said moiety is held of her, and not (as stated in the above inquisition taken at Crukern on 2 November last) of the king by knight’s service, and that the 40 a. land and meadow with watermill in Illeigh which are stated in the same inquisition to be held of the heir of John Kayl, a minor in the king’s wardship, are not held of the said heir, but of William Batecok, clerk, and John Keynes, so that the marriage of John Denbaude’s heir ought clearly to belong to her, by reason of priority, as she is prepared to shew; notwithstanding which, after being in full and peaceful possession of the custody of the said moiety for some time after John Denbaude’s death, she has been unjustly expelled therefrom without any process of law by colour of the inquisition aforesaid. 27 September, 15 Richard II.
Endorsed: The said John Maudeleyn has been notified accordingly by Richard Maior and William Villedewe.

    (Writ missing)
