Francis Cooke

Francis COOKE was born after Aug. 1583 . The date of his marriage to Hester MAHIEU in Leyden, Holland has often been printed incorrectly (e.g., 30 June 1603 - Stratton:270 & MM:113) with the source being MD 8:48. However, an article in MD 27:145-55 (New Light On Francis Cooke His Wife Hester Mahieu And Their Son John) goes to great pains to give an estimated date and states the date given in MD 8:48 was "erroneous". Marriage intentions were entered 4 July 1603 & 5 July 1603 which means the three banns were proclaimed 6 July, 13 July and 20 July (three successive Sundays); therefore, the marriage took place on or after 20 July 1603. The marriage intentions state Hester MAHIEU was from Canterbury, England and she was accompanied by her mother Jennie MAHIEU and her sister Jennie MAHIEU. In his book, "Hypocrisie Unmasked", Edward WINSLOW stated she was a "Walloone" and came from the French, MD 27:145 shows she was admitted to the French Reformed Church in Leiden in 1603. Hester died between 8 June 1666 (agreement of hus. heirs) and 18 Dec. 1675 (will of grandson John WRIGHT) . (See COOKE Probate Appendix for will & agreement of heirs of Francis COOKE.)

Wakefield, FASG & Ralph Van Wood Jr.; MD 3:95-105, Francis Cooke and His Descendants; MD 27:145-55 (above); NEHGR 107:61, Hester LeMayhieu, Wife of Francis Cooke.)

Francis & Hester had 7 children:
...

I. JOHN COOKE, bpt. betw. 1 Jan. - 31 Mar. 1607, Leyden, Holland , d. 23 Nov. 1695, Dartmouth ; m. 28 Mar. 1634, Plymouth Sarah WARREN , (dau of Richard & Elizabeth WARREN - see Warren Family). (See COOKE Probate Appendix for will of John COOKE.)
5 COOKE Children:
1. Sarah COOKE, b. c1635, Plymouth, d. aft. 26 Feb. 1712/3 (son's receipt), prob. Dartmouth ; m. 20 Nov. 1652, Plymouth, Arthur HATHAWAY , b. c1620-25, prob. England, d. 11 Dec. 1711, Dartmouth .

WILLIAM MULLINS

William MULLINS came from Dorking, co, Surrey, England and was born c1572, the son of John MULLYNS & Joane BRIDGER ; he died 21 Feb. 1620/1, Plymouth . His wife was Alice ( ), her origins remain unknown . She died after 21 Feb. 1620/1, the date her husband's will is thought to have been written, and probably after 2 Apr. 1620/1 when Bowman states the will was copied to return to England on the Mayflower with nothing added to indicate any named in the will were deceased . Alice and son Joseph were deceased pre Nov. 1621 when the ship Fortune arrived . (See MULLINS Probate Appendix for will of W111iam MULLINS.)

William had 4 known children:
...

III. Priscilla, b. c1602, England. See ALDEN Family.

RICHARD WARREN

Richard WARREN was born pre 1590, poss. London, Eng. ; his origins have not been found. He died in 1628, "This year died Mr. Richard Warren who ...was an useful Instrument and during his life bare a deep share in the Difficulties and Troubles of the first settlement in the Plantation of New-Plimouth" Richard married, pre 1610, poss. London, Elizabeth ( ). Despite what has previously appeared in print (e.g. Marsh, Jowett) her maiden name is unknown. Elizabeth was born c1580, England; her obituary states, "Mistris Elizabeth Warren an aged widdow aged above 90 yeares Deceased on the second of October 1673 whoe haveing lived a Godly life Cam to her Grave as a shok of Corn fully Ripe shee was honoral bey buried on the 24th of October aforesaid". (One of the dates is obviously wrong, she could not have died on the 2nd and buried on the 24th; it seems probable that the "twenty was left off the "second" and that she died on the 22nd.) .

(See also: Mayflower Families In Progress, Richard Warren Of The Mayflower and His Descendants for Four Generations, by Robert S. Wakefield, FASG, Janice A. Beebe, et al, 4th Ed., 1991.)

Richard & Elizabeth had 7 children:

...

III Sarah Warren, b. c1614, prob. England, d. aft. 15 July 1696 ; m. 28 Mar. 1634, Plymouth, John Cooke . See Cooke Family.
