  • Text: In the Name of God Amen I Joseph Carver of Bridgwater in the County of Plymouth being thr'o the aboundant Mercy & Goodness of God of a sound mind & perfect understanding & memory, do Constitute this me last Will & Testament, & desire it may be received by all as such - first I most humbly bequeath my soul to God my maker beseeching his most gracious acceptance of it : thr'o the all sufficient Merits & Mediations of my most Compassionate Redeemer, Jesus Christ, who I trust will not reject me, but prepare me for the Time of my Dissolution & then Take me to himself into that peace & Rest & Incomparable Felicity, which he has prepared for all that Love & fear his holy name - Amen blessed be God, I give my body to ye Earth from Whence it Was Taken in full assurance of its Ressurrection From thence at the Last Day as for my Burial I devise it may be decent at the discretion of my Executor hereafter names - as to my wordly Estate I will and possitively order that all my debts be paid = First I give to my Dear & Loving wife for the Term, that she remains my widow, one third part of my Land Improvements lying near the House in which I now dwell the best room of which I also give her - a bed & furniture one Table Two Chairs a Pott & Kettle & half the Earthen Ware all for her Improvement dueing s'd Term -

    Item = I give to my son Robert Carver, & my daughter Experience Lummis to his and Her Heirs assigns forever all my Personal & Real Estate not yet Disposed of herwise of, to be Equally divided between then Except my Wearing apparel which I give to my son Robert or the whole to my son Robert, ofering him to pay Experience [?] = Ordering them to pay unto my sons Joseph Carver the sum of Five Shilling Immediately after my dicease, Also I order them to pay unto my Daughter Elizabeth Packard Five Shillings - Also to my Second son Benjamin Carver the sun of Three Pounds Thirteen Shillings & Four Pence, & to my Daughter Experience to pay unto my grandson, Abiezer Porter Twelve Shillings & Eight Pence - And I do hereby order and constitute Peres Fobes of Bridgwater to be my Sole Executor of this my last Will & Testament & Trustee for my Wife & Children = In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my Hand & Seal This Twentieth Day of June & in the year of our Lord 1764 -
