  • Text: In the name of God Amen I John Stergis Senr of fairfield being sicj & weeke of Body but through the mercy of God of sound & perfect memory and understanding do make and ordain this as my last Will and Testament Abrogateing[?] and making void all former Wills made by me. : Im primus I commit my Immortal soul into the hands of ye Almighty God my Creator who gave it: And my body to A Comply buriall at ye deserosion[?] to my Executors hoping for A Joyfull Resurection at the Great day hopeing for salvation in and through the Allow[?] merrits and satisfaction of my Glorious Redemer the Lord Jesus Christ and As for that temporall Estate which God of his County hath bestowed upon me I depossess of it as followeth vz:

    Imprimus I go Give and Bequeath onto my loveing son Jonathan Stergis my house and Barns and home-lot with ye orchard there on standing also I do Give him A parcell of land on ye Etg[?] of sasco hill wch is Enclosed with his own land wch lyes on ye sd Hill said lands is in Quantity aboute two Acres and halfe also my swoard also my lites mathoocike[?]

    Item I Give and Bequeath onto my loveing son Joseph Stergis two Acres and two lne[?] Rods of land lying between the land of John Staples and his owne land also I Give him my Fouling plow yt is my long gun.

    Also I Give unto my son John my Litl gun

    Item Io Give unto my loveing daughter debrah Rodfeild one Acre & halfe of land in ye Mill cocaine[?] lying between ye land of William Sprage & ye homes of John Baneks decd: allso An acre of my medoe of that wch was formarly called Termans medoe also A parcell of land In Sascoe feild in quantity between thre and four acres lying on this side Sasco River fronting Upon the Comman all which is to be to her dureing her natural life and at her deth to be to her children yt she now hath

    Iten I Give unto my Granson Christepher Stergis five pounds Iten I Give unto my son in law Richard Straten five shillings Item I Give unto my son Richard Stratens five children wch he had by my daughter Sarah five pounds to be Equally devided between them all which to be out of my movable Estate I do also Give unto my daughter deborah my negrow woman namely do my daughter Abigail my negrow boys

    Item I do Give and Bequeath onto my daughter Abigail Couch ye wife of Simon Couch my best feather bed and couffers[?] pillows coverlid and A pair of sheets all the Rest of my movable Estate my deb[ts] and Funeral Charges first defrayed I Give and Bequeath to my two daughters deborah Rodfeild & Abigail Couch to be Equally devided between them And

    As for my son Thomas it not being sertain to me whether he be in ye land of the liveing however if it pleas God that he be and do returns home Again I do Give him fifty pounds to payd by ye Rest of my Children proportionably according to what they de receave of my Estate

    And I do constitute and ordaine my two loving sons namely Jonathan and Joseph Stergis to be soale Executors to this my Will and that This is my Last will and testament I have manifested by seting to my hand for this I do Ad that In consideration of my Giving ye newgrow boy to my daughter Abigaile as Above I do do cause to call [] ye above[?] [] bed & furniture & thes to be devided as ye wsh of my Estate And as for my lands above mentioned since ye above writing was drawn I have Conveyed ye same by deed of Gift to my sons & daughters deborah and as for ye Rest of my Estate my will is that it should be Given as above mentioned & do declare this to be my will and testament as to my movable Estate In Witness whereof I have set to my hand this 4 day of March 1697/8

    ye sum yt I give to Thomas was adjusted[?] from eighty to sixty before signing
