HISTORY OF MC FARLAND FAMILY SINCE 1675: John White and Katherine Evans, his wife, born in Ireland in 1715, they were the father and mother of Rebecca White and Margaret White. Moved from Rockbridge County, VA to Fayette County, KY near Lexington in 1790, and soon thereafter John White was killed by the Indians.

..... In 1796 William McFarland and Joseph McFarland and their families moved to near Cynthiana, north of Lexington, Kentucky where William died there in 1825 and his wife Rebecca died there in 1822 and they were both buried in the Indicotte Church yard. Joseph and wife Margaret and younger children moved to Green County, Ohio near Cedarville in 1809 and Margaret his wife died there in 1834 and Joseph died there in 1839. They were both buried in Cedarville Church yard in Greene County, Ohio.

.....The Indicotte [Endicott] Church Yard, north of Lexington was said to be in the border of Bourbon County, now said to be in Harrison County."

  • Text: 22 Nov 1918:

Our grandfather's [John W. McFarland] grand parents [Robert McFarland & Esther] on our mothers side came from N. Half of Ireland Antrim County about the year 1740. Their ancestors were from Scotland and some from Wales. They were called Scotch Irish. Grandfathers grandparents came to Cumberland County, PA, thence to Rockbridge County, VA. Our grandfather and family moved from E. Tennessee to Fayette County, Kentucky about 1797. Our grandfather's grandfather on our mothers side was Robert Indicot was killed by Indians 5 miles South of Lexington [Editor's Note: Name was White, not Indicott]. .....Grandfathers father and mother and his brother James, and Joseph and sister and his wife's father and mother, their names were also McFarland, were all buried at the Indicott Meeting House Graveyard in the edge of Bourbon County. In the year 1807 grandfather and grandmother and babe Lewis moved from near Lexington, Kentucky to Greene County, Ohio, 8 miles west of Xenia.

.....Reminiscence of our grandfather John W. McFarland, oldest brother [Robert], born in 1760 in Cumberland County, PA. His home was Urbana, Ohio."

Great Great grandfather John White, father of Margaret White, wife of Joseph McFarland (my mothers grandmother). I think she married second to Robert Indicott [Endicott].

  • Text: 14 Feb 1919:

Great grandfather going to Kentucky in 1796, instead as I estimated 1797. He is right he has Harrison County instead of Fayette County, they are adjoining counties, he is right. Great great grandfather, John White was killed at Meeting house in Bourbon County (on the edge of what is now in Harrison County)."
