    Obituary.

Martha McFarland was born in Greene county, Ohio, August 25, 1834. Left an orphan at the age of eight years, she was reared by her brother. In the fall of 1853 she went to live with a sister in Vermillion county, Illinois, and the next year to another sister in Houston township, Adams county Illinois. On the 19th of July, 1855, she was married to D. G. McFarland. There were born to them eight children - four sons and four daughters. Two sons and one daughter preceded her to the better world. She united with the M. E. church at Hebron in 1865 under the ministry of R. B. Newman, and remained a consistent and faithful member of the same society until her death. For the last ten years she's been a great sufferer from heart trouble and the last ten weeks of her life her suffering was at times severe, yet in it all she was patient; her faith was triumphant.

Her decease occured at 10:30 Saturday night, December 7, 1895. The funeral services were held Monday at 11 a. m. at the Hebron church, conducted by Rev. A. N. Simmons, the funeral sermon being preached by Rev. W. M. Reed, from the text chosen by the deceased - John XIV. 2. Rev. P. Slagel, of Golden, also assisted in the service, and the singing was done by good singers selected from the different churches in Camp Point.

We desire to return our thanks to the friends who have been so kind to us during our late bereavement of our dear mother, and to the singers who so kindly assisted.

    D. G. McFarland and Family.
