Note
There are many sources that claim without providing any evidence beyond statements that were passed down in the family, that she was the daughter of Lord Millington, and in one source, the "Colonial and Revolutionary History of the Lockwood Family in America", Holden, Frederic A., E. Dunbar Lockwood, Philadelphia, 1889, it is implied that this might be Lord Thomas Millington (1630-1703/4). Lord Thomas Millington was of Newberry, Berks, England. He had several children, including an Ann Millington. According to reports filed in court after Ann's death on March 11, 1743/44, None of Thomas' children every married or had children, including Ann. At her death, this Ann Millington was worth over 60,000 pounds and received annuity of 2000 pounds yearly. This was a very large forturne, so there were several 2nd cousins who claimed to be next of kin. The court cases are very interesting and can be found in "Reports of Cases, Upon Appeals and Writs of Error, in the High Court of Parliment, Volume 7", Dublin, 1884, Josiah Brown, Esq., pp 414-432 [ http://books.google.com/books?id=wTFFAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA414 ] and in "Reports of Cases in the Ecclesiastical Courts, Volume 1", 1833, Joseph Phillimore, pp 515-525 [ http://books.google.com/books?id=sbs7AAAAYAAJ&pg=PA515 ].

The legend passed down is that she was given a trunk by her father full of riches (guineas and silk dresses) which she brought to America while she searched for her lover, a British army officer. Not finding him, she married Gershom Lockwood.

Without any other evidence, we must assume that her surname may be something other than Millington
