Stewart Baldwin: 'Since his name appears in ByT, p. 101 as a patronymic for Cynfyn, I am inclined to view the name as correct, but the earlier generations of his pedigree show wide variation, and are probably a late invention.'

Baldwin on Gwerstan's wife: 'Late sources make her Nest, daughter of Cadell ap Brochwel, king of Powys, which is chronologically impossible.'
