Commentary
Cawley: "Eyton suggests that Elias was “probably son and heir of Henry” de Say (no source citation). According to Domesday Descendants, he was "brother and successor" [1140] of Henry de Say of Clun. The chronology suggests the improbabilty of Elias being Henry’s brother if it is correct, as suggested above, that Henry de Say was a child in [1060], bearing in mind the date of the first marriage of Elias’s daughter Isabel. If her first marriage is correctly dated to [1153/54], and her birth consequently dated to [1135/40], it even seems likely that her father could have been Henry’s grandson. Further speculation about the precise family relationship must await the emergence of more source documents. "
