The source for his mother comes from Père Anselme, "Histoire généalogique et chronologique de la maison royale de France" and is apparently based on charter evidence. The source has been corraberated and is not contemporary, but has not contradicted either. Stewart Baldwin lists his mother as uncertain, but calls her Bertrade, based on Anselme.
