Note
A History of the County of Somerset: Volume 4 (p. 32-58) says "who is said to have married Alice, daughter and heir of John Gifford". S3236 says "George Powtrelll owned Hinton St, George, in the reign of Rich, 1 and K. John. [he] devised it his only daughter and heir, married to John Gifford. His daughter and heir, Alice, married Sir Philip Deneband". The History and Antiqutities of the County of Somerset (p. 166-167) says "George Powtrell, in the time of Richard I. and King John ... in the time of Henry III. devised it to an only daughter and heir, married to John Giffard, who sometime resided here; but died without issue male, and the lands descended by Alice his daughter and heir to Sir Philip Deneband, of Pescayth in Monmouthshire, knt."
