Commentary
Cawley places him as a son of Edwin King of Tegeingl and his wife Iweryd. He states that The Chronicle of the Princes of Wales records that "Iweryd the mother of Owain and Uchtryd, the sons of Edwin king of Tegeingl, and Bleddyn son of Cynvyn were sister and brother by the same father but not the same mother, as Angharad daughter of Maredudd was the mother of Bleddyn". Cadell was not mentioned. Also, Cynvyn married Angharad about 1023, and had their first son Bleddyn about 1025. Iweyrd, being the 3rd child, to a 2nd unknown wife could not have been born before 1030. If Cadell was their son, he was born no earlier than 1045, and his son, Tedwr Mawr was born no earlier than 1060 and his 2nd son, Rhys ap Tewdr, would have been born no earlier than 1077, however, Cawley states "The Gwentian Chronicle records that "Rhys son of Tewdwr came from Llydaw and put in a claim to the principality of South Wales as lawful heir" in 1077. Additionally Cawley Quotes from an early source a completely different parentage for Cadell: "Gerald of Wales´s Descriptio Kambriæ records the descent of the rulers of South Wales in reverse chronological order as follows: “...Theodorus filius Cadelh, Cadelh filius Eneæ, Eneas filius Oenei, Oeneus filius Hoeli da, id est Hoeli boni, Hoelus filius Cadelh, Cadelh filius Roderici magni”. Cadell could not be the son of Einion, because Einion is probably a mythical character.
