Commentary
Conan I is called a son of Bérenger in a letter of pope John XIII and a son of Juhel Bérenger in Chronicum S. Michaelis and other Breton sources. He has been called son of Judicaël Bérenger, e.g., Chronicum Kemperlegiensi, which however, refers to Conan's son Geoffroy as "filius Conani filii Juhaëli Berengarii"]. His mother is not known. Cawley says his mother is Gerberge under Dukes of Brittany, but does not lists any spouses or mistresses for his father.
