The Knocking Door

Many years ago I saw the film, TANGO (1980), by Zbigniew RybczyƄski. It won the Best Short Animated Film at the 55th Academy Awards. I only recently (finally) found in again on YouTube. The film begins with a empty room that is soon entered and then exited by a young boy. The film of the boy repeats interleaved with another person entering and exiting the room. The film continues to repeat with additional characters until the room is full of people performing different tasks while none of them interfere with the others. The film so struck me, that 30 years later when I wrote this poem, I still had it in mind. This poem was published in my book, "The Knocking Door ".
