E-Mail addresses are used to authenticate users and may be used by me for personal communications. I never spam users, nor do I ever distribute email addresses on this website or anywhere else.
Cookies are used during the log-in process to retain session IDs. No personal information is obtained.
I monitor the server log files. The information inside these log files includes internet protocol ( IP ) addresses, type of browser, Internet Service Provider ( ISP ), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages. This information is not linked to any information that is personally identifiable.
I also use log files to monitor the results of the use of the Services in order to detect bugs and improve their capabilities.
In order to use the Services, users may need to upload a GEDCOM file which may contain personal information. GEDCOM files are renamed, protected and kept secure until deletion. GEDCOM files are never distributed on this website or anywhere else. GEDCOM files will be kept for whatever period is necessary depending on its intended use. In addition, GEDCOM files may be used to test, analyze and improve the capabilities of the various Services. GEDCOM files are also used to gather general statistics such as average ages, life spans, and most popular names. No content is ever extracted from a GEDCOM file and reused for any purpose other than those described here, in the Terms of Service and in the description for the Services it was intended for.
Basically, for those of you who are rightfully cautious, I’m not out to steal your data or sell it. I am only using the record structures contained within these files to find out what types of records genealogy applications are exporting, and then look for better ways to detect and support these records within the Services I provide. If you would rather I deleted your file immediately, email the name of the file you uploaded and I will make sure that it is deleted pronto.
A number of the provided services generate individual report pages for the user to examine and use at their will. The reports may contain sensitive information derived from their GEDCOM files. The reports are given unique names and are never shared by me with anyone but the user. Users may, however share the link to their report with anyone they choose. The reports are persistent, though not permanent, they will be deleted 12 months after generation or sooner if not accessed. Users can request via email that the report be deleted immediately by providing the name of the file. If the user has lost the file name they may still contact me, as I can probably locate the file by using log files.
